Stella L. Abendroth

Stella L. Abendroth, 64, of Lancaster, passed away on Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at Hospice & Community Care after a courageous year-long battle with cancer.  She was the loving wife of Harry R. Abendroth.

Born in Easton, PA, she was the daughter of the late Leo and Stella (Mollica) Fiamma, and graduated from Phillipsburg High School in 1969.

After graduating from Fairleigh Dickinson University with a Bachelor’s of Art Degree in Theatre, Stella worked in the Broadway theater district for several years before pursuing her life-long love of antiques, most recently as the owner of Contented Cat Antiques. Stella also volunteered as a reading tutor with the Lancaster-Lebanon Literacy Council, and saw many of her former students pursue successful careers.

While living in Vermont, Stella served as a volunteer for the Retired Senior Volunteer Program in Morrisville, VT. She was honored with a Governor’s Award by the State for her service. Computer literate, Stella also contributed her skills to help several local churches and non-profit organizations set up their websites.

Stella was a loving woman with a wide and welcoming smile.  She opened her heart and her home to friends from across the globe, and turned them into family.  Stella was an active contributor to an online trivia community known as ChatGames as a player, moderator, and webmistress.

Among friends and family, Stella was known for her great love of cats, and this love led to her involvement with local cat rescue and adoption agencies. Stella provided loving foster care to several cats before they moved to their permanent homes. “Until one has loved an animal, a part of one’s soul remains unawakened” – Anatole France

In addition to her husband Harry, Stella is survived by her niece Melissa Tinling, two nephews, Gregory and Kevin Abendroth, brother-in-law George Abendroth and cousins Joe Fiamma and Joe Mollica.

Per Stella’s wishes there will be no formal service at this time, however a celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date. Contributions in Stella’s memory may be made to Centerville Pet Rescue, 237 Centerville Road, Suite 7, Lancaster, PA 17603 or the Literacy Council of Lancaster-Lebanon, 24 South Queen St., Lancaster, PA 17603.
