Mineko “Lori” Slough
Mineko “Lori” Slough, 86 of Lancaster, PA passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, September 23, 2016, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Saga Ken, Japan, she was the daughter of the late Hikota and Hana Matsuda Yoshida. Her husband, David E. Slough, Jr. predeceased her October 1, 2008.
“Lori” is survived by her children: Judy A. Slough of Baltimore, MD, Gina M. (Daniel) Martorana of Lancaster and David E., III (Kathleen) Slough of Landisville, PA; grandchildren: Lyndsey and Kasey Martorana and Erica Slough; brothers: Toshihiko and Nobuhiko Yoshida and a sister: Fumico Yoshida Kinami. She was predeceased by a brother Yutaka Yoshida.
She was involved in a “Cultural Exchange Program” between Aichi University in Nagoya, Japan and Millersville University. She was formally recognized for her contributions to the program by Aichi U. for her assistance with the Japanese students. Lori was seen as a “surrogate mom” to many of the students and kept in contact with them throughout her years.
She loved making origami birds and flowers. Everywhere she went she gave them away. Her creations were found throughout the community; in many local businesses, restaurants and homes. She was recognized by Hospice and Community Care for her contributions in 2011.
Lori was an avid reader of Japanese mystery novels and was frequently sent DVD’s from many of her beloved students in Japan that kept her “up to date” with shows and movies. She loved watching her Baltimore Orioles and never missed a game! Her yellow tabby cat “Chibi” was always by her side; he loved her so much.
She adored her three grandchildren and was fiercely proud of their accomplishments.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Memorial Service at DeBord Snyder Funeral Home, 141 E. Orange St., Lancaster, PA, 17602 on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Joseph Burchill officiating.
The family will greet friends at the funeral home, on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
Private interment will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
