Jane B. Kulp

Jane B. Kulp, 92, of Lancaster, PA, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, December 28, 2016.  Born in Lancaster on July 23, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Herbert N. and Anna E. Breneman and the wife of Harry R. Kulp.

She graduated from Manheim Township High School and Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA.  After college she worked at Armstrong Cork Company in the laboratory office and then at Terre Hill High School where she taught science.  Jane lived her life serving others.  She was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church in Lancaster where she served on the Session and the Board of Trustees; chaired Town Fair, the Christian Education Committee, and the History Committee; and was instrumental in establishing the church archives.  She also was active in the Women’s Association and authored a chapter in the book “250 Years of Witness,” a history of the church.

Jane served two terms on the Board of Directors of the YWCA Lancaster, which included holding the office of Vice President.  She volunteered at Lancaster General Hospital for the American Red Cross for 41 years.  She was a member of Lancaster Country Club where she played golf with both the Women’s 18-hole and 9-hole associations and won the Ladies Nine-Hole Golf Championship in 1972 and 1973.

In addition to volunteer work and sports, Jane was an avid gardener and loved the changing of the seasons.  She also enjoyed pen-and-ink sketching, refinishing furniture, and rug hooking.

Jane loved her family dearly, and they loved her.  In addition to her husband she is survived by two daughters:  Sally J. Mentzer (wife of Steven C.) and Louise A. Kulp, both of Lancaster; two grandchildren:  Lynn C. Conant (wife of Matt) and Marc S. Mentzer (husband of Blair); and nieces and a nephew.

The family especially would like to thank the staffs at The Long Community at Highland and Caring Hospice Services of Central Pennsylvania for the loving care they gave Jane and the support they gave the family.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Jane’s memorial service on Saturday, February 25, 2017, at 11:00am at First Presbyterian Church, 140 East Orange Street, Lancaster, PA.  The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00am until the time of the service.  (A private interment was held in late December in the Memorial Garden at First Presbyterian Church.)

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jane’s name may be made to YWCA Lancaster, Attn:  Residency Program, 110 North Lime Street, Lancaster, PA  17602 or First Presbyterian Church, 140 East Orange Street, Lancaster, PA  17602.
