Abram H. “Abe” Hess, 72, of Conestoga, was called by his Lord and Savior to his eternal home on June 13, 2012 from Hospice of Lancaster County . He had suffered a stroke four months ago.
Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Christ M. and Edna M. Harnish Hess. He had been married 46 years to the late Mary Jane Miller Hess who died in 2007.
Abe was a farmer all of his life. After his son took over the farm following his retirement, he still remained active helping him out and doing custom farm work for many farmers.
He was a member of the Pequea Church in Lancaster, where he had served as a deacon for 15 years. He enjoyed riding motorcycle and had traveled to 44 states including Alaska. His other interests included hunting, attending gospel concerts, and helping his grandchildren with their 4-H projects. He was a member of the Lancaster County Farm Bureau and the Christian Motorcycle Association.
The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice of Lancaster County for the wonderful care and support given to Abe during the last weeks of his life.
Surviving is a daughter, Vicky J. wife of Jared Landis of Smoketown; four sons, Wayne A. Hess of Lancaster, Gerald L. husband of Lynn Funk Hess of Davidson, NC, Brian L. husband of Margie Kolessar Hess of Conestoga, and Jay L. husband of Beth Frey Hess of Conestoga; seven grandchildren, Kayleena, Brianna, Tyler, Jadyn, Carter, Leah and Landon Hess; five brothers, Christ husband of Elaine Hess , Elvin husband of Sue Hess, and Ray husband of Faye Hess, all of Conestoga, Richard Hess of Millersville, and Park husband of Stacy Hess of Mancos, CO; five sisters, Pauline wife of Melvin Reitz of Gaithersburg, MD, Anna Mae Hess of Bladensburg, MD, Esther Hess of Conestoga, Edna wife of Kevin Kilheffer of Millersville, and Joyce wife of Rev. Phil Shertzer of Mountville. He will also be greatly missed by his special friend Joyce Shenk of Millersville.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 16, 2012 at 6:30 P.M. at Pequea Church, 40 Church Road, Lancaster, PA with the Rev. Phil Shertzer officiating. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 5:00 P.M. until the time of the service. Interment in the adjoining church cemetery will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
