Ada Marie Hallman, 81, of Lancaster, passed away on September 13, 2023, at Lancaster General Hospital.
Ada was born in Kalona, Iowa, to Henry A. Mast and Wilma A. Yoder. She earned her BSN from Goshen College and her MPA in Healthcare from Penn State University. From 1985 until her retirement she worked in retirement communities, first as an Administrator at Willow Valley in Lancaster—where she became a resident not long after her own retirement—as a Vice President at Presbyhomes and Services in Philadelphia, and finally as Chief Operations Officer at Rockhill Mennonite Retirement Community in Sellersville.
Ada was a founding member of Community Mennonite Church of Lancaster, when that congregation split off from Akron Mennonite Church, which she also attended for many years. When she lived in Lafayette Hill, PA, she attended the Presbyterian Church of Chestnut Hill, where she sang in the choir. Lifelong passions included travel, bridge, gardening, hiking, and choral singing. In her retirement she enjoyed volunteering as an usher at the Fulton Theatre and as a literacy tutor at Carter and MacRae Elementary School in Lancaster.
Ada was preceded in death by her husband, James D. Hallman, in 1980. She is survived by her brother, Clifford Mast, her children Andrew, Mark, and Sarah Hallman, and her grandchildren Ana and Noah Hallman.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Memorial Service in the Johnson Auditorium, Willow Valley Manor North, 600 Willow Valley Square, Lancaster, PA on Saturday, October 21, at 11:00 am. Friends may greet the family from 10:15 until the time of the service. Contributions may be made in Ada’s memory to the Literacy Council of Lancaster-Lebanon.
