Ada S. Fisher, 87, of Lancaster, was called home by her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, December 31, 2013. Ada had few acquaintances because she became a friend to everyone she met.
She was the wife of the late Abner L. Fisher who died in 1984. Born in Bareville, she was the daughter of the late John F. and Malinda E. Stoltzfus.
Ada was employed for many years as a tour guide for the Mennonite Information Center and made many friends over the years guiding tours. She was also an accomplished seamstress and was known for the custom drapes she made. Earlier in life she had worked for the John and Vivian Nissley family and they became a part of her extended family. She had also worked in the kitchen at Good & Plenty for many years.
She was a member of the Weavertown Amish Mennonite Church. The past number of years she looked forward to spending the winter months in Sarasota, FL. She enjoyed volunteering at Conestoga View and Landis Homes Retirement Community. Her family was her life and she enjoyed every minute she spent with them. Ada was known for her canning and was eager to share the meats and vegetables she had canned.
Surviving are two brothers, John S. husband of Marian Shonk Stoltzfus of Lancaster, and Amos J. husband of Fannie Stoltzfus Stoltzfus of Penn Yan, NY. Also surviving are 72 nieces and nephews, 294 great nieces and nephews and many great great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 13 siblings, Mattie Stoltzfus, Rachel Smoker, Rebecca Stoltzfus, Eli Stoltzfus, Mary King, Daniel Stoltzfus, Malinda Fisher, Sarah Fisher, Henry Stoltzfus, Emma Beiler, Levi Stoltzfus, Benuel Stoltzfus and Katie Fisher. The family would like to extend a huge thank you to Ada’s niece Rose and her husband Elvin King for the care they gave to Ada over the last years.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. at the Weavertown Amish Mennonite Church, 2900 Church Road, Bird-In-Hand, PA, with Pastors Ben Fisher, Lloyd Beiler, Jason Smoker and Chris King officiating. Friends may call at the church on Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. and on Saturday from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Interment in the adjoining church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ada’s memory may be made to the Gideons International, 1536 Abbas Avenue, Lancaster, PA 17602.
