Adolph Neuber, 99, formerly of Lancaster and Owl’s Head, ME, passed away Wednesday, July 14, 2010, at Carlisle Regional Medical Center. Born in Litchfield, IL, he was the son of Edward O. Neuber and Bertha B. Pryor Neuber Cooper. Widowed twice, he was predeceased in 1980 by his first wife, Ruth Haverstick Shaub Neuber. In 1984 he married Anne Henderson Hopkins Neuber who died in 2001.
Mr. Neuber was a mid-1929 graduate of the Lancaster Boys High School. From 1948 to 1976 he owned and managed The Willows Restaurant and in 1955 founded the adjacent Amish Farm and House which he owned and managed till 1985. He was a PA Dutch Tourist Bureau founding member and past president and was often referred to as the “Father of Tourism” in Lancaster County.
A charter member and past president of Paradise Rotary Club, he also served as a member and past president of the Lancaster County Restaurant Assoc.; former director for Lancaster Chamber of Commerce; member of the East Lampeter Twp. Planning Commission; founding board member of Hospice of Lancaster County and member of Community U. M. Church.
He is survived by a daughter, Jane, wife of James Eshelman, Carlisle; 3 granddaughters, Elizabeth, wife of Ronald Southwick, Nedrow, NY; Sara, wife of Scott Leone, Carlisle; Naomi, wife of William Nolte, Hampton, VA; and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Shaub Neuber, and a brother, Pryor E. Neuber.
Funeral services will be held from the Kearney A. Snyder Funeral Home, 141 E. Orange St., Lancaster, on Friday, July 23, 2010, at 10 AM with interment following in Greenwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 to 10 AM at the funeral home on Friday. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Lancaster County, P. O. Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125.
