Anne Lenhart died peacefully and entered into the presence of her Lord on March 12, 2025 at Trillium Place in Lancaster, PA. She was honored in the last weeks of her life with visits from family, friends, and staff who blessed her with expressions of affection and appreciation. She had celebrated her 102nd birthday the previous October.
Agnes Glenn Browning was born in Wytheville, VA on October 17,1922. She was the 3rd of 4 children born to Sylvester Browning and Agnes Harris. Upon graduation from high school, she studied nursing at George Ben Johnson School of Nursing in Abington, VA. In 1943 she enlisted as an ensign in the US Navy’s Nursing Corps and was stationed at Naval hospitals in Arlington, VA, Portsmouth, VA, and Key West, FL. In August 1945 she met and married Ensign Edward Joseph Flynn in Key West.
Upon discharge from the Navy, Ed completed his college education at Hamilton College in New York, graduating in 1947. While at Hamilton their first son, Tyler Browning, was born. The family returned to Ed’s hometown—Lockport, NY—and welcomed Geoffrey Grant and Hugh Barrett in quick succession.
Anne embraced the role of homemaker and mother with much pleasure. Her renowned baking skills made the house on Windermere Rd a magnet for the neighborhood children, especially boys! She also sold Beauty Counselor cosmetics while raising her children and developed a gift for salesmanship.
From 1961-1975 Anne served as a school nurse at Starpoint High School (Lockport), where she was a favorite with students. She earned the BS degree in nursing from the State University NY at Buffalo in 1967. After finishing her nursing career in 1975, she was licensed to sell real estate and was successful in selling many homes with McKnight, Hogan, and Noonan Realtors in Lockport.
In 1976 Anne married widower Earl R. Lenhart. They were active members of Lockport Alliance Church. In time, the couple invested in a cabin at Delta Lake, an Alliance camp ground near Rome, NY, where they thrived relationally, physically, and spiritually during the summer months.
Despite these blessings, Anne and Earl each experienced the loss of a son during the years of their marriage: Geoff Flynn (along with his wife Marcia and son Eric) and Ron Lenhart. In time, serious arthritis pain made it necessary for Earl to retire from his professional sign painting work. At Ulrich Sign Co, he was known as Earl the Pearl — a testimony to the quality of his work and the gentleness of his personality. Anne cared for him at home for 3 years before his passing in February of 2009.
After 60 years of residence on Windermere Rd in Lockport, in 2010 Anne moved to Calvary Fellowship Homes, a retirement community in Lancaster, where she settled into a community of like-minded people and made new friends.
Anne is survived by sons Tyler B. Flynn and H. Barrett Flynn (Barre); daughter-in-law Letha; grandchildren Alyson Flynn (husband Brian Harpster), Tyler Flynn, Jr., and Carolyn Gunther (husband Craig Gunther); great-grandchildren Carter & Noah Stanislaw, and Owen Gunther and Emily Gunther; nieces Susan MacKenzie and Stephanie Hedge; “adopted son” Gabriel Agostini (wife, Judy and grandson Andrew Agostini); and granddaughter Stephanie Lenhart.
Anne was interred at Corwin Cemetery in Newfane, NY on March 18, 2025. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2025 at 1 PM in the Crichton Chapel at Calvary Fellowship Homes, 502 Elizabeth Dr., Lancaster. The service will be streamed live at: https://my.gather.app/remember/agnes-lenhart-2025.
The family expresses their gratitude to the staff at Calvary and Trillium for their fine care of Anne, especially during her two years in skilled nursing.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to Ripe for Harvest, c/o Gabe Agostini, 2050 Westminster Dr., Wilmington, DE, 19810
