Almira S. Ashley, 100, a resident of the Mennonite Home died Saturday, January 16, 2010. She was born October 6, 1909 in Bridgeton, NJ.
She was the wife of the late Norman D. Ashley who died in 1988.
Mrs. Ashley was a Pediatric and Public Health Nurse in South Jersey for many years. She moved to Lancaster in 1988 and had resided at the Mennonite Home since 2002.
She was a member of Calvary Church in Lancaster. Almira was the life of the party, having a genuine love for people wherever she met them. She used her creative talents to enrich the lives of many through needle work, ceramics, painting and baking. Her life was a example of generosity and hope.
Surviving is a son, Harry husband of Barbara of Lancaster; two grandsons, Mark married to Judy and Eric married to Rebecca, five great grandchildren, a nephew and three nieces.
A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, January 19, at 7:00 P.M. at the Chapel at the Mennonite Home, 1520 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster, PA with the Rev. David D. Allen officiating. Friends may call at the chapel on Tuesday from 6:00 P.M. until the time of the service. Interment in Overlook Cemetery, Bridgeton, NJ on Wednesday morning at 11:00 A.M. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Samaritan’s Purse/Haiti, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607-3000.
