Alta was employed at Lancaster Mennonite School as Girls’ Dormitory Supervisor before her marriage. She taught Sunday School and Bible School at

Alto and
Rohrerstown
Mennonite Churches. She was a member of
Rohrerstown
Mennonite Church where she was active in the Sewing Circle. She volunteered at Columbia and Mt. Joy

Shops, Meals on Wheels, and at
Landis
Homes. She enjoyed quilting, traveling with her husband, entertaining and being with family and friends. She greatly enjoyed family gatherings, especially with her step-grandchildren, step-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In June 1972, she married Robert H.

, who died in June 2010. She is survived by five step-children: John and wife Barbara (Herr), Oxford, FL; James and wife Judy (
Shenk
),
Harrisonburg
, VA; step-son-in-law Wilmer Martin and wife Phyllis Miller Martin, Waterloo, Ontario; Jean and husband Howard

, MD; Joe and wife Ann (Lapp), Lancaster, PA; Joanne and husband Doug Dirks, Lancaster, PA and 12 step-grandchildren, 22 step-great grandchildren and 15 nieces and nephews. Four brothers and one sister preceded her in death: Abram, Harlan, Lester and Lloyd Hoover and

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at West Bethany Chapel,

Homes. Family and friends will be received from 10:00-11:00 a.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to
