Amos Edward Dombach (21 August 1939, Columbia, PA) quietly passed away on Thursday, 29 September 2016 from complications associated with cancer. Growing up in Columbia and Kinderhook, he was the only son of the late Amos Stark and Emma Mae Zielinski Dambach.
A Columbia High School Graduate (1957), he attended Millersville State Teachers College (1961, BS Education, Sciences), Temple University (1966, MS Education, Biology), and West Chester University (1981 Instructional Media Specialist Certification). His 45-year public school education began in New Cumberland before assuming positions for the School District of Lancaster (Lincoln Jr. High, McCaskey High School, and Administration). Amos initiated the AV computing/technology/film program for the district and was an integral part of establishing the Individual Study Program, which incorporated technology with traditional textbook learning regimes. Throughout the years, he mentored several student apprentices. Amos remained with the district as a consultant after formally retiring in 1995.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Susan Atkins Dombach, a daughter, Dr. Amy Sue Dombach, DMA, and her husband, Ethan W. Gilson, of Westwood, MA.
Amos spent family summers in Strathmere, NJ and fishing in the Upper Chesapeake Bay. He also enjoyed being in nature, working outdoors, and woodworking.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Funeral Service at Hamilton Park U.C.C., 1210 Maple Ave., Lancaster, PA 17603 on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. David Goode officiating. The family will greet friends on Friday evening, September 30, 2016 at DeBord Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 141 E. Orange St., Lancaster, PA 17602 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be in Silver Spring Cemetery.
