Anna R. King

November 27, 1925 — February 7, 2025

Elizabethtown

Anna Ruth King of Lancaster, homemaker, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, died peacefully on 2/7/25 at the Masonic Village in Elizabethtown, PA where she resided during her final years. She was 99 years old.

She was born in Highville, PA on November 27, 1925. Anna was the daughter of the late Mary and Harvey Miller and one of nine children. She graduated from Columbia High School, Columbia, PA and was a long-term member of Church of the Apostles UCC in Lancaster. Anna was employed as an office worker at Armstrong Company, sold hats at Hertzler’s Dress Shop and in her retirement years, was a popular cashier on the express lane at Weis Market in Bridgeport.

Anna was married to the late Russell K. King, Sr. for 61 years. Throughout their life together, they spent many happy times vacationing and making special memories with their children and grandchildren at their waterfront beach house in Ocean City, MD, taking bus trips to various parts of the country, going to auctions, raising vegetables and flowers in their spacious garden and ballroom dancing. In addition, Anna was a great cook, making holidays and family dinners very special with her delicious meals and desserts, especially cookies and pies at Christmas. In later years, Anna enjoyed doing cross stitch, reading, puzzles, bingo and watching Phillies baseball games whenever possible. She also enjoyed being with the many good friends she made over the years.

Anna was a devoted mother to Jenny K., wife of Steven Sheaffer of Wallingford; Dr. Ann King, wife of Joanne Rafferty of Lancaster; Russell, Jr. husband of Karen King of Lancaster; and an adoring grandmother to four grandchildren, Christopher (Mariel) Sheaffer, Matthew (Kelly) Sheaffer, Russell (Megan) King III and Brittany (Gunner) Minzer; and six great-grandchildren, Miller and Cole Sheaffer, Brady and Harper Sheaffer and Wren and Leena Minzer, with one on the way. She is also survived by her brother, Harold Miller of Lancaster.

Anna’s family would like to extend their sincere thanks to her friends, neighbors, caregivers, staff and administrators at Masonic Village in Elizabethtown as well as Long Home Community in Lancaster for the outstanding care, kindness and support they provided during her final years.
