Anne E. Peifer, 93, of 1520 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster, died Wednesday, June 16, 2010. Born in Salunga, she was the daughter of the late J. Howard and Maude Peifer.

She graduated from the former Millersville State Teachers College in 1939. In 1963, she received her MS in Elementary Education from Temple University. Her teaching career began in 1940 in a one room schoolhouse in West Donegal Twp. After that year, she taught at Rohrerstown Elementary School for 39 years. During her teaching years, she received the Golden Deeds Award from the local Exchange Club. She was honored for her dedication to the young people of the area. As a basketball coach for boys 10 to 12 years old, she continued her joy of working with youth.

She enjoyed bridge, reading, puzzles, water coloring and the outdoors, especially bird watching. Anne belonged to various clubs – the Lancaster County Art Association, the Demuth Foundation, the Millport Conservancy, and the Wildlife Federation. Her volunteer work included working in the Discovery Room of the North Museum; teaching an adult to read for IU13; and the Arch St. Center for 10 years. She was a member of Chiques United Methodist Church where she served on various committees including the Flower Committee.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Maj. Elsie S. Peifer, a brother, John H. Peifer, Jr., and a nephew, C. Scott Lupold. She is survived by a sister, Helen Lupold, nephews, John H. Peifer, III, Thomas Lupold and niece, Shirley McMinn.

Funeral services will be held from the Chiques United Methodist Church, 1215 E. Main St., Mount Joy, PA 17552 on Saturday, June 19, 2010 at 11 AM with interment following in Salunga Brethren Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday, June 18, 2010 from 7 to 8 PM at the Richard A. Sheetz Funeral Home, 2024 Marietta Ave., Lancaster and on Saturday from 10 to 11 AM at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to Hospice of Lancaster County, P.O. Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125 or to the Chiques United Methodist Church Building Fund.
