Arthur F. “Pat” Mcdonie

Arthur F. “Pat” McDonie died Friday, November 16 at Brethren Village following a long illness. Born on March 10, 1927 in Huntington, WV he was the son of Elmer H. and Clara M. McDonie. Prior to moving to Brethren Village he had been a resident of East Hempfield Township for many years. For six years, from 1935-1941 his family lived in Eleanor, WV, one of the three “subsistence homesteads” that were built by the Federal Government in West Virginia. Mr. McDonie was a veteran having served in the U.S. Navy aboard LST 272 during World War II.

Mr. McDonie graduated from West Virginia University in 1952 with a BS in Electrical Engineering. Following graduation Pat began work for RCA on an engineering training program. After completion of that program he was assigned to Lancaster in February, 1953. Later Pat pursued further education at both Franklin & Marshall and Penn State Harrisburg. In 1965 he took the qualifying examination and became a licensed professional engineer in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. During his 35 years of employment with RCA he received several company engineering achievement awards and was granted 18 United States patents pertaining to photo sensitive devices.

Mr. McDonie was a charter member of Westgate Baptist Church where he served in various capacities. He was a member of Lamberton Lodge #476, Lancaster Commandery No. 13 and Royal Arch Chapter No. 43. In his younger years he enjoyed active sports and then playing pitch & putt golf later in life.

Pat is survived by his wife Carolyn M. McDonie. They had been married for 62 years. Also surviving are his four children: Karen W., wife of J. Patrick Garrett of Anderson, TX, Melissa M. Anderson and Patrick B. McDonie husband of Linda B. McDonie both of Lancaster and Christina C. wife of Michael Terry, Gurnee, IL. Three grandchildren survive him along with two sisters: Mary Ann wife of Paul L. Jones, St. Albans, WV and Patricia wife of Gene A. Gentry, Greensboro, NC. Preceding him in death were three brothers, Elmer H. McDonie, Jr., Richard J. McDonie and John Bullington.

Funeral services will be held from the Chapel at Brethren Village 3001 Lititz Pike Lancaster, PA on Saturday, November 24, 2012 at 11 AM with interment following in Conestoga Memorial Park. The family will visit with friends from 10 to 11 AM at the chapel on Saturday. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting memorials to either the Brethren Village Good Samaritan Fund, P.O.
