Arthur “Skip” R. Field

Arthur “Skip” R. Field, 82, of Lancaster, was called into everlasting life by the grace of God on January 6, 2017, at the Mennonite Home, Lancaster.  He will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Jacqueline (Shade) Field, to whom he was happily married for 54 years, his sons and daughter-in-laws, grandchildren, and many others who came to know his welcoming and generous heart.  Born in Gardner, MA., he was the son of the late Clesson Field and the late Mira (Chapman) Hartsough.

He proudly served in the United States military, first in the U.S. Air force as an Airman for four years and then in the U.S. Navy as Petty Officer 3

rd

class for four years.  After his military service Arthur spent much of his professional career with PP&L as a power plant control operator, retiring after 21 years in 1994.  He was an active member of Faith United Church of Christ, serving in the Youth Fellowship ministry, as a Deacon and member of the Property Committee, and on the Consistory.  Most recently he served in the worship ministry running the sound system.

Arthur loved sharing time with family, neighbors and friends, getting to know people, playing his harmonica, hitting the local auctions with his wife, reading Western novels, and doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles.  He was a diehard Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates fan.

In addition to his wife Jacqueline, Skip is survived by two sons: Bill Field (wife Elizabeth) of Iowa City, IA; Samuel Field (wife Carol) of Lancaster, PA; by grandchildren Daniel Field (wife Kristen), Katie Reasner (husband Rich) and David Field of Iowa and Mike and Michelle Field of Lancaster; sisters Dutch Gidding and Marjory Kirkland (husband Merle); and brother Dale Hartsough (wife Sharon).  He was preceded in death by his brother Rusty Field and sister Shirley Call.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service at the Mennonite Home, 1520 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster, PA 17601 on Friday, January 13, 2017 at 11:00 AM with Pastor John Rieker officiating. Friends may greet the family from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Interment with Red Rose Military Honors will follow at the Riverview Burial Park, Lancaster.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Mennonite Home Benevolent Fund at the address listed above.  The family extends their deepest appreciation to the Mennonite Home staff for their devoted and loving care of Skip.
