Barbara A. Monyer, 93 of Manheim, PA died Sunday, February 21, 2016, at Pleasant View Retirement Community.
Born in Reading, PA, she was the daughter of the late Milton M. and Elizabeth Hafer Monyer. She was a graduate of J.P. McCaskey High School.
Barbara retired as Vice President and manager of the Lancaster Branch of Commonwealth Land Title Insurance Company of Philadelphia. A licensed real estate broker, she was a member of the Greater Lancaster Board of Realtors, Past President of Women’s Council of the Greater Lancaster Board of Realtors, and Past President of Lancaster Land Title Association.
She formerly served as a committeewoman in Lancaster City and Manheim Twp. for the Republican Party, served as foreman of the Lancaster County Grand Jury, was a member of the Board of Directors of the Lancaster County Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and served as president of the Young Adult Leadership Council of the YWCA. She was a charter member and former president of the Lancaster Opera Company , first performing lead roles and later providing creative leadership with scripts and narratives written for performances at special events.
She served two terms as president of the Lancaster Community Concert Association and was a member of the Lancaster Symphony Chorus. She was founder and director of “The Pleasant Singers” at Pleasant View Retirement Community. She also served as President and Vice President of the Residents Association.
In 1971 Barbara received the Soroptomist Club’s “Woman of Achievement Citation,” Lancaster New Era’s “Red Rose Award” and the “Extraordinary Senior Award” from Central Penn’s
Mature Living
in August, 1999.
A long time member of First United Methodist Church in Lancaster, Barbara was a former member of the Chancel Choir and was the alto Section Leader. She enjoyed all music, reading and traveling.
Her survivors include nieces and nephews, an her beloved cat, Honey.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Memorial Service in the Hoffer Auditorium of Pleasant View Retirement Community (544 N. Penryn Rd., Manheim, PA , 17545 ) on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at 11:00 A.M with the Rev. David Myers and Chaplain Ginny Hartman officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the memorial service.
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation for all Barbara’s caregivers.
Private interment will be held at the convenience of the family in Millersville Mennonite Cemetery.
