Barbara M. French

Barbara M. French, 101, of Willow Valley Retirement Communities, Lancaster, PA passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on April 20, 2014.  She was the widow of Lawrence P. French.  Born in Trenton, NJ she was the daughter of the late James E. and Ethel Disborough Manser.  A graduate of the University of Delaware she taught 2

nd

grade in the Wilmington, DE public schools for many years.  She was a guide at the Hagley Museum in Greenville, DE for 15 years.  A well-known watercolor artist, she was a member of the Studio Group in Wilmington, DE for many years.  She had a lifelong love for growing, arranging and painting flowers and over the years painted and took classes at Longwood Gardens.  She was a member of the Women’s Garden Club of Lancaster, as well as a former member of the Iris Club.

Barbara was a member of Hanover Presbyterian Church of Wilmington, DE and First Presbyterian Church of Lancaster, PA and a 50 year member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood.

Survived by a daughter, Kathryn F. Sampson (John) of Lancaster, PA, a son, James B. French (Linda) of Newark, DE.  Four grandchildren; Jill S. Haas (Jeff), Scott A. Sampson, James M. French (Shannon) and Andrew B. French (Brandi); five great-grandchildren, Lily K. Haas, Parker O. Haas, Lawrence D. Sampson, Marcus J. French, and Dylan B. French.  Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a memorial service in the Johnson Auditorium of Willow Valley Manor North, 600 Willow Valley Square, Lancaster, PA on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at 11:00 am with the Reverend Dr. Donald W. Hackett officiating.  Family will receive friends in the Johnson Auditorium on Saturday June 14

from 10:00 am until the time of service.  Private interment will be held at the convenience of the family.  In lieu of flowers contributions in her memory may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 140 E. Orange St., Lancaster, PA 17602 or Ascera Care Hospice 315 Primrose Lane, Mountville, PA 17554.
