Barbara W. (Weaver) Rutter, 86, of Lancaster, passed away on October 3,
2023
at Legend of Lititz. She was born December 20,
1936
at Lancaster General
Hospital
,
the only child of the late Harry C. Weaver and
Dorothy
(Weber) Weaver. Barbara was a
longtime
member of First United Methodist
Church,
Ephrata, PA.
Barbara
married George E. Rutter on
April
27, 1969, and celebrated 52 years of marriage before George passed
away
on
September
2, 2021.
In addition to her
parents
and husband
, she was preceded
in death by George’s two sons, Gregory H. Rutter, August 13, 2021, and
Geoffrey
B. Rutter, May 1, 2006.
She is survived by Greg’s widow
,
Fern Dannis; Greg’s two sons, Bradford G. Rutter, Los Angeles; and
Gregory
H. Rutter II and his wife Christyn and their two children, Ella Jane and Gregory H. III, Lancaster; and sister-in-law, Nancy L. York, wife of Alan W. York, Jr., Greer, SC
.
Barbara
grew up in Ephrata and was a graduate of
Ephrata
High School class of 1954. After
high school
,
she worked in the offices of Stunzi Silk Mill, Ephrata
;
Armstrong, Lancaster
;
and spent a year at C. Brewer, Honolulu, Hawaii. After
returning
to Ephrata, she was a secretary at Educators Mutual Life and
Atlantic
Richfield. In 1971
,
she joined Acme Markets where she was a Buyer for the Mid Atlantic supermarket chain for 26 years until she
retired
in 1997.
Barbara enjoyed golfing and was a member of the Olde Hickory Golf Club for over 30 years
and also played at many golf courses throughout the area. She enjoyed bowling, was an avid reader and enjoyed puzzle solving –
crosswords
, logic,
sudoku
, numbrix and variety of puzzles. George and Barbara enjoyed
Caribbean
cruises, vacation in S
ie
sta
Key, F
L
and spent many golfing vacations in Hilton Island, SC.
Graveside services will be held on
Wednesday
, October 11, 2023 at Groffdale Mennonite Church Cemetery, 168 North Groffdale Road, Leola, PA 17540
at 11:00 AM.
