Barry L. Sweitzer

Barry Lee Sweitzer, 60, of Lancaster, PA, passed away on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at his residence. Born in Lancaster in 1954, Barry was the son of the late Henry M. and Lois L. (Nieman) Sweitzer.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, where he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant during the Vietnam War.   He was also stationed in Germany during a tour of duty.

Barry was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal service for over thirty years.

He was a life member of the VFW Lodge Post 1690, and a member of the Elks Club #134 Lancaster.

Barry had a true love for music, animals (especially Beagles), traveling, going to concerts, his Ford Mustang and his beloved Seattle Seahawks.

Barry is survived by his loving friend and companion, Dee Allen, and her daughter Lauren, both of Lancaster; two sons, Matthew Sweitzer, of Missouri and Mark Sweitzer, of Lancaster; a daughter, Julie Sweitzer-Thorton, of York, PA; 6 grandchildren; two sisters Barbara J. Vann, of Memphis, TN, and Joy Ann Schwanger, of Savannah, GA; three brothers, Dwight D. Weidman, of Wrightsville, PA.; Carl M. Weidman, and Dennis Johnsonbaugh, of Lancaster; and several aunts and uncles, but was very close to his Aunt Kay Shank, of New Providence, PA. He was preceded in death by his parents, listed above, and a sister, Lois Ann Brickner.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Memorial Service at Kearney A. Snyder Funeral Home, 141 E. Orange St., Lancaster, PA 17602 on Monday, March 2, 2015 at 7:00 PM with the Rev. Barbara J. Vann officiating. Friends may greet the family from 5:00 PM until the time of the service. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.

Please omit flowers, however, contributions in his memory may be made to the Humane League of Lancaster County, 2195 Lincoln Hwy E, Lancaster, PA 17602.
