Benjamin F. Gorman, Csm

Benjamin F. Gorman, 85, longtime city businessman and a retired Army Command Sergeant Major, died Thursday at Landis Homes.

Gorman, the son of Benjamin S. and Dorothy Musser Gorman, lived most of his life at at 351 North Mulberry St., in Lancaster.

A patriot, businessman and devoted family man, Ben was a Korean War veteran, and retired from the Army Active Reserve after 38 years of service. He received the 79

th

ARCOM Command Sergeant Major of Year Award in 1980 and, at the time of his retirement, served a two-star general in the Army Active Reserve.

He owned and operated Gorman Distributors out of the Mulberry Street address for 36 years. A graduate of McCaskey High School and Franklin and Marshall College, he was a member of the Lancaster City Parking Authority from 1998-2006 and was treasurer of several Smithgall For Mayor campaigns.

He is survived by a sister, Betty Jane Gorman, also at Landis Homes and was a surrogate father to her children, Damian B. Gorman (husband of Deborah Oswald Gorman) and Celeste Gorman Everhart (wife of James Everhart). Also surviving are four great and four great, great grandnephews and nieces.

There will be a private graveside service at Leacock Presbyterian Church Cemetery, at the convenience of the immediate family. Please omit flowers.
