Bessie Peters

Bessie Peters, 94, of Conestoga, passed away peacefully on December 28th, 2024 at Neffsville Nursing and Rehabilitation. She was embraced at the gates of Heaven by her beloved late husband, Norval Peters. 

Bessie was born on July 26th, 1930 in Kirkwood, Pennsylvania to Pearl Herr and George McMinn and had ten siblings. She is preceded in death by sisters Lillian, Dorothy, and Martha; brothers June, Ross, Richard, and James; and she is survived by sisters Mary Emma, Vivian, and Janet.

She married Norval Peters in 1951, beginning their 62-year journey together in Conestoga, PA. Together they raised three children and Bessie was both a homemaker and laborer throughout her life. 

Bessie was a devout member of the Bethel Evangelical Congregational Church of Conestoga for 70 years, where she regularly attended services and participated in church activities. She supported their mission and ministries both locally and through outreach programs, including the food bank and missionary work. Dedicated to serving their community, Noval and Bessie volunteered at the Conestoga Ambulance Association and the Conestoga Volunteer Fire Company for over 50 years.

For many years you could find Bessie with her husband in their woodworking shop, where they created holiday decorations, kid's toys, and a variety of other handmade goods. She loved participating in craft shows to both share their creations and socialize with others. Bessie also enjoyed putting puzzles together, coloring, and other forms of crafting. 

Bessie valued time with her family and friends, delighting in phone calls and visits from loved ones. She is survived by her three children: Connie Stumpf, Terry Peters, and Michael Peters, as well as five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. Bessie will be lovingly remembered as a God-loving woman who was strong-willed, friendly, and giving.

A memorial service will be held in her honor at Bethel Church of Conestoga, 3716 Main St., Conestoga, PA 17516 on Tuesday, January 7th, 2025 at 11AM with a visitation from 10-11AM. The interment will be held at Mt. Zion Cemetery, 3825 Main Street, Conestoga, PA 17516. A reception will take place back at the church following the interment. In lieu of flowers, Bessie requests donations be made to Bethel Church.
