Betty Ann Murphy

Betty Ann Murphy, 71 of 66 North Duke Street, Millersville, died at the Lancaster General Hospital on August 7th, 2019 after a courageous battle with lung and heart disease. Betty was a tiny southern bell with a big heart. Born in New Bern North Carolina she was the daughter of the Late Betty Ann Wilson. Betty worked many years at Millersville University in the student housing where all the kids called her “Ms. Betty.” Previously, she worked at Media Heights Golf Club, Willow Street for almost 20 years. Betty was an extreme Dallas Cowboys Fan, loved flowers, the beach, her two dogs Matty and Akia, her grandchildren Christina, Nick, Sean, Tony Jr, and her great grandchildren Blade, Raelynn, Braxton, and Avah.

She was the loving wife of Thomas Murphy III of Millersville, of whom they celebrated 38 years, a wonderful mother to her daughter, Carmen Swinehart wife of Mike Swinehart of Columbia, a son Tony Benton of Leola and is proceeded in death by her son, Johnny Benton of Leola and many nieces and nephews of Lancaster.

Betty enjoyed her many friends at John Herr’s Grocery in Millersville where she stopped almost every day to brighten their day with her laughter and enjoy coffee and doughnuts with the gang. Her shining face can be seen for miles and could light up any ones world who met her. She was known as “Ms. Betty, Mayor of Millersville. “

A Celebration of Betty’s Life will be held on August 25th, 2019 from 1-5 at Freedom Park Memorial located at 9 Shertzer Lane , Millersville, Pa  17551. Please join us in celebrating the beautiful life of a very special lady who touched the lives of many. Betty will be missed by her family and friends and we will cherish her touch forever.
