Betty Lou Thomas

Betty Lou Thomas, 83, of Lancaster, PA., was called to her home in heaven on Sunday, August 9, 2015 at Hospice & Community Care in Mount Joy, PA.

Born in Lancaster, PA on December 20, 1931 to the late Alexander F. and Kathryn Brown Heinley.

She graduated from J.P. McCaskey High School and College Preparatory Course of Penn State University.  She continued her education with courses in Real Estate in Theory and Practice, Law, Financing, Sales, PA Title Insurance, appraisals and construction.  She was a real estate professional for 30 years and a Broker Partner for 7 years, Betty Lou enjoyed time with family, working in her garden, making clothing, crafts and knitting.  She also volunteered for YMCA membership drives and fund-raising.  As well as Lancaster Cemetery maintenance and fundraising.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Lancaster, PA where she participated in Shut-in visitations and finance committee and Sunday school.  She is survived by a son Michael L. Thomas fiancé of Carla L. Jones, Lancaster, grandson, Justin M. Thomas of Lancaster and a Great Grandson Conner L. Thomas.  A brother Vernon “Buddy” husband of Alta Heinley of East Petersburg, PA. She was predeceased by her brother Donald “Chubb” Heinley and a sister Helen E. DeMarra.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Funeral Service at First United Methodist Church on the corner of Duke and Walnut Streets, Lancaster, PA on Thursday, August 13, 2015 at 10:30 AM with the Rev. Joseph F. DiPaolo and Rev. Kerry E. Leeper officiating.  Family will greet friends on Thursday at the church from 9:30 AM until the time of the service.  Interment in Lancaster Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be sent to Hospice & Community Care, 685 Good Dr. PO Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125.
