Betty Muench, daughter of the late Warren Hensel & Marion Hess Foley, died peacefully, in her sleep on May 26, 2015 at Pleasant View Retirement Home, Manheim PA. She was 86.
She was predeceased by her husband Charles and sisters Virginia and Colleen.
She is survived by 3 children, Nancy, wife of Jere Brendle, of Washington Boro, Eric, husband of Martha Corrigan, of Manheim, and Laurie, wife of Steve Wanner, of Landisville. Also surviving is her brother Warren “Pete” Foley of Mount Joy,
Grandchildren Sarah, Zachary, Charles & Patrick and step Grandson Chad Vinelli (Erin Armstrong Vinelli), as well as step Great Grandchildren Brooke and Mitchell Vinelli.
Betty grew up in Hershey PA, a graduate of the Class of 1946 from Hershey High School and of Hershey Junior College. She played the string bass in high school, though it was rumored that she did so only to be closer to the tuba section where Chas hung out. Fortunately, that relationship bloomed so that the rest of this story could be told. Her day of death coincides with what would have been her & Chas’ 65
th
wedding anniversary. Happy Anniversary Ma & Pa, together again at last!
She began her working career in the personnel department of Hershey Chocolate, then followed Chas to Tokyo during the Korean Conflict and worked for the Department of the Navy. Her career was interrupted by her three kids, but began again as a teacher’s assistant for IU13 for 17 years and later a substitute teacher.
Betty volunteered for Contact Helpline for many, many hours and, anonymously, helped callers deal with life’s crises. Her experience raising her three children was all the training she needed!
In retirement Betty loved to travel, spending time in the summers at Long Beach Island, playing cards and board games (Rummi Kub!) and honing her skills as an active listener.
She loved and is loved by many and will be missed.
