Carol Ide

Lillian Carolina Hofer (Carol) Ide, resident of Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2017, in Quarryville, PA.

Carol was born on October 30, 1925 in Philadelphia to Paul Bruno and Carolina Hofer, immigrants from Germany and Austria.  She graduated from Olney High School in 1942, and worked as a secretary at Sears.  During World War II she corresponded with infantryman John Ide, and they were married in January, 1946.  They had three sons:  John William, Raymond Carl, and Stephen, who died in infancy.  Carol was active as a scout den mother and church member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Burholme, Philadelphia.  In 1972 her husband sold their bakery business and became the manager of the Christian Admiral Hotel in Cape May, New Jersey, where Carol acted as hostess and food service director.  Upon retirement in 1987, Carol said that her work was never a job but always a ministry.  They retired to Cape Canaveral, Florida, and celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary in 1996.  In 1997, John suffered a severe stroke that left him paralyzed on the left side and unable to speak.  Carol cared for him in their cheery little home for seven years before he passed away on June 2, 2005.

Carol was an ardent Christian, a believer from her youngest years.  As a child she formed the habit of giving part of her allowance money to God.  She grew up in the Lutheran church, but later joined the Bible Presbyterian church, and was a member of Grace Bible Presbyterian Church in Cape Canaveral, FL.  Throughout her life, she was an avid student of the Bible, and took a special interest in the Jewish roots of Christianity.  She loved to worship God with her church family and attended every church service and event.

With her vivacious personality, Carol had a knack for turning an everyday meeting of friends into a party.  She loved being with her family, grandchildren and friends.  She excelled at preparing delicious meals and entertaining.

Carol was predeceased by her husband, John William, and by her brother, Carl Hofer, in 2015.  She is survived by two sons, John Ide of Carson City, Nevada, and Raymond Ide of Lancaster, PA; daughter-in-law Martha Joy Ide, and three grandchildren, Juliet, Christopher and Philip.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Funeral Service at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community on Saturday, January 21, at 11 am with Rev. Lawrence Roff officiating.  Friends may greet the family from 10:30 am until the service.  A luncheon will follow.  Interment will take place prior to the service, at 9 am, at Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, 2151 Oregon Pike, Lancaster, PA.  Guests should kindly phone the desk at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community at
