Carol J. Devries
Carol J. DeVries, 79, of Holtwood , entered into eternal rest with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, August 8, 2013.
She was married 54 years to James N. DeVries. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Orville P. and Dorothy Cooke Stratton. She was a graduate of McCaskey High School, and in her early years was very involved with Lancaster Youth for Christ.
Mrs. DeVries was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church. She was a graduate of Barrington Bible College in Providence, Rhode Island. Carol enjoyed volunteering at Lancaster Bible College and at Water Street Ministries. She was an accomplished pianist and enjoyed nature and hiking.
Surviving besides her husband are three sons, David J. husband of Nancy DeVries of Eagan, MN, Daniel J. husband of Carol DeVries of Uxbridge, MA, and Jonathan N. husband of Tamara DeVries of Bernville, PA; also surviving are six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother Donald Stratton.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at The Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2151 Oregon Pike, Lancaster, PA with the Rev. Dr. Michael A. Rogers officiating. The family will greet friends following the service. Interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family in the Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Hospice and Community Care, P.O. Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125 or to Water Street Ministries, 210 S. Prince St., Lancaster, PA 17603.
