Carol Ann Rogers of Lititz, age 76, passed away suddenly on December 17 at her Moravian Manor home. Her physical heart failed her without warning, but her spirit now dwells in realms of glory beholding her Savior, Jesus Christ.
She was the first-born child of Gilbert and Dorothy Gass of Buffalo, NY in 1948. She graduated from Williamsville South High School with high honors in 1966. She attended Houghton College.
Carol’s family includes a sister Judy Wilson, wife of Glenn, and brother Charles Gass, husband of Heidi.
Carol’s early talent at the piano and organ defined aspects of her future. During high school she was known as a singer and accompanist. Through music and drama, she met her husband, now the Rev. Dr. Michael A. Rogers, pastor emeritus of Westminster Presbyterian Church of Lancaster. They married in 1969, as Michael began studying for the ministry in Massachusetts. Carol began using her musical gifts as church organist in several pastorates where her husband served.
Carol’s excellence was seen not only in music but through her personality that radiated sunshine to any dark corner she encountered.
In recent years, Carol supervised the large library at Westminster Church where she delighted in seeing young children discover a lifetime of reading through quality books.
Carol's greatest joy was being wife to Michael and mother to Eve (Kevin) Sypien of Pequea, Paul (Kerri) Rogers of Lancaster, Dan (Johanna) Rogers of Columbia and Ben (Lauren) Rogers of Lancaster; grandmother to Colleen (Corey), Molly (Kyle), Emma (Jonathan), Jillian, Mike, Wesley, Lewis, Elsa, Mia, Justus, Liesel, Theo, Hudson, Cecily, David and Ada; great-grandmother to Zane, Liliana and new baby arriving in the spring.
A memorial service in honor of Carol Rogers’ well-lived life will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2151 Oregon Pike, Lancaster, PA 17601on Monday December 23 at 11:00 am. Refreshments and visitation with the family will follow the service. Flowers gratefully declined.
