Carolyn Hall Bare

Carolyn H. (Hall) Bare, 88, of Willow Valley Manor died peacefully on January 15, 2012. She was married to Conrad B. Bare, the love of her life, for 66 years.

Born in Omaha, NE, Carolyn was the daughter of Watson L. Hall and Dorothy (Dodds) Hall. She grew up in Bethlehem, PA, attending the local schools. Carolyn graduated from William & Mary with a bachelor’s degree in biology in 1943. During World War II, she worked in various capacities using her degree.

Although she did not work outside the home after her children were born, Carolyn was a very active volunteer in many organizations such as the Great Valley Girl Scout Council, hospital volunteer for St. Luke’s Hospital in Bethlehem, PA, Southern Lehigh Library and reading tutor at Lafayette Elementary School, Lancaster, PA. She also served as a deacon and elder of the First Presbyterian Church in Bethlehem, PA. Most recently, she was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Lancaster.

Surviving Carolyn are her husband, Conrad; Susan (daughter) and Steve Bartlett of Newark, DE, Marilyn (daughter) and John Sheehan of Burke, VA and David (son) and Carla Faust Bare of Gainesville, FL, as well as four grandchildren, Daniel Bartlett and Jennifer Ellison, Brian and Stephanie Sheehan and two great-grandchildren. Carolyn was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 21, at 11 am at the First Presbyterian Church 140 E. Orange St., Lancaster, PA. The family will visit with friends in Shirk Hall immediately following the service.
