Carolyn M. McDonie, 93, passed away at Brethren Village, December 8, 2023.  Born May 13,1930 in Charleston, WV, she was the daughter of the late Earl Q. and Susan A. Mollohan. She was the wife of the late Arthur F. (Pat) McDonie. At the time of his death in November 2012, they had been married for 63 years. A current resident of Brethren Village, she had previously resided in East Hempfield Township for many years.

Carolyn attended West Virginia University and graduated from the Charleston School of Commerce. After moving to Lancaster in 1953, she was employed by RCA and then later as a secretary at the former Lancaster County Easter Seal Society, now the Schreiber Pediatric Center.

Both she and her husband were founding members of Westgate Baptist Church where she had served on several different boards. Mrs. McDonie was also a charter member of the Hempfield Woman’s Club and a member of the ODC Auxiliary. Carolyn enjoyed doing needlework, particularly counted cross stitch and flower gardening. She was also an avid reader.

Survivors include four children: Karen, wife of J. Patrick Garrett, Anderson, TX; Melissa., wife of Thomas Flanagan, Albuquerque, NM; Patrick, husband of Linda McDonie, Lancaster; and Christina, wife of Dr. Michael Terry, Gurnee, IL. Three grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren also survive.  Carolyn was preceded in death by two sisters, Marian Cochran of Matthews, NC and Kathryn Ross of Cincinnati, Ohio.

A memorial service will be held in the Chapel at Brethren Village, 3001 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA on Wednesday, December 20 at 11:00 AM with interment following in Conestoga Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will precede the service, starting at 10:00 AM in the chapel. Memorial contributions in Carolyn’s name may be sent to either Hospice and Community Care, 685 Good Drive, Lancaster, 17604 or to Westgate Baptist Church, 2235 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster, 17601.
