Charles R. Fridinger, Sr., 84, of Lancaster, died Thursday, January 29, 2009 at Hospice of Lancaster County in Mount Joy.

He was married 60 years this past December to Betty Jane Frey Fridinger. Born in Gettysburg, he was the son of the late Raymond R. and Mary E. Moser Fridinger.

Mr. Fridinger retired in 1987 from Armstrong World Industries after 33 years of employment. In retirement, he enjoyed working at John Herr’s Village Market in Millersville for eight years.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served with the 941st Field Artillery Battalion during World War II. Charles was a member of Grace Community Church in Willow Street. His other memberships included the Loyal Order of Moose #1526 in Gettysburg, American Legion Post #34 in Lancaster, VFW Post #8757 in Mountville and the Am Vets Post #19 in Lancaster. He enjoyed spending time with his family and was an avid Washington Redskins fan.

Surviving besides his wife are three sons, Charles, Jr., husband of Carol Fridinger of Lancaster, Donald, husband of Gina Fridinger of Hawaii, and Richard, husband of Barbara Fridinger of Lititz; a daughter, Beverly, wife of Robert Pitts of New Providence; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and four sisters, Dorothy, wife of John Caskey of Aspers, PA, Betty, wife of Donald Mower of Williamsport, MD, Mary Louise, wife of Edgar Shelleman and Shirley, wife of Kenneth Kuykendall, both of Gettysburg. He was preceded in death by a great grandson, Logan Parker Zambanini.

A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, February 2, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. at Grace Community Church, 212 Peach Bottom Road, Willow Street, PA with the Rev. Wilmer R. Martin officiating. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Interment in Riverview Burial Park, Lancaster, PA. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mr. Fridinger’s memory may be made to Hospice of Lancaster County, 685 Good Drive, P.O. Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125. Arrangements by the Kearney A.
