Charmian Dixon Strode “Charm”
Born as Charmian Spencer Dixon, Charm passed away on May 29. 2016 at Willow Valley Retirement Communities at the age of 91 years old. She was the loving wife of Richard Strode who passed away shortly before her on May 7, 2016.
Charm was born in Syracuse, New York to Robert Galloway Dixon and Ruth Beverly Spencer Dixon. She was a graduate of William Nottingham High School and Syracuse University.
She was primarily a homemaker and enthusiastic community volunteer and then worked for a short time as a counselor for Child Guidance Centers in Delaware County, PA, retiring in 1982.
In her life, Charm was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lancaster and other churches in various communities where she lived, the Womens’ Garden Club of Lancaster and of Wallingford, PA, Alpha Phi Sorority, and an active member and dedicated volunteer as a Life Member of the Helen Kate Furness Free Library in Wallingford, PA and the Springfield Auxiliary of Riddle Memorial Hosptial, Media, PA.
Some of her favorite activities in life were cross stitching, quilting, and sewing of quilts, bedspreads, wall hangings and pictures, and clothing, gardening, and travel.
She is survived by her daughter Deborah Spencer Boggs of Ashton, MD, daughter Joyce Strode Laval of Charleston, South Carolina and son R. Brinton Strode of Apex, North Carolina, 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
We remember Charm for her wit, spark, kindness, vibrancy, and of course, her “charm.”
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Memorial service held jointly for her and her husband Dick at Willow Valley North Johnson Auditorium, Lancaster PA at 11 AM, June 4, 2016.
