On February 21, 2014, Christine Sharpe Pelger, Lititz, departed this world. She made the most of her 85 years.
Chris loved to be busy and to help others. This combination of traits blessed many. Active in United Methodist Women, Meals on Wheels, Lititz Woman’s Club, a long term employee of Manheim Auto Auction and serving in many church positions, Chris got things done. She often shared some of her wonderful holiday cooking with those who were struggling. She acted and served without pretense.
With the gift of gab, Chris rarely encountered strangers for long until she was chatting with them. She could talk to anyone and make them feel comfortable. Of course, her husband was often heard to mutter, “Now who is she talking to?”
Parkinson’s Disease took its toll over the last decade, yet none of us recall ever hearing her complain. She simply adjusted to her new reality. She ate less, but tended to make chocolate her major food group. Of course this was a concern to her family and often discussed. A grand-daughter added her own sentiments, “That woman ran around and did everything for everybody her whole life. She should eat damn chocolate all day, every day.”
Chris was born on September 24, 1928 to Dorothy Graver Sharpe and Herbert Cassel Sharpe and is survived by her husband of 63 years Edward Pelger and children: Cindy, wife of Terry Sullivan living in Waynesboro, PA; Patty, living in Lititz, PA; Debby, wife of Bruce DeBord, living in Lititz, PA; Ned, husband of Debby living in Lititz, PA and Jim, husband of Erin, living in Missoula, MT. The 13 grandchildren include: Mick Owens, T. Sullivan, Emily DeBord, Alaina Ingels, Lex Pelger, Abby Sullivan, Anna DiCicco, Tessa Pelger, Harrison DeBord, Samantha Pelger, Jack Pelger, Dutch Pelger and Elsa Pelger. The 8 great-grandchildren include: Cole Owens, Tyson Owens, Clay DiCicco, Parker Owens, Corrina Ingels, Levin DiCicco, Josie Ingels and Meadow DiCicco. Chris is also survived by a large extended family that often gathered, ate and laughed.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at 2:00 pm at the Kearney Snyder Funeral Home, 141 E. Orange St, Lancaster, PA 17602. Visitation will be from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm and internment will be private. Please consider leaving online condolences, a comment or memory.
