Clair H. “Alex” Alexander, of Lancaster, PA passed away on March 14, 2015 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Doris L. (Sweigart) Alexander, who passed on October 15, 2013. Born in Philadelphia, PA on December 30, 1927 he was the son of the late Clair, Sr. and Elsie Alexander.
Alex served in the Korean War and retired from Lancaster Press after 30 years. He was a die-hard Phillies fan and enjoyed all the Philadelphia sport teams. When he wasn’t watching sports, he was playing golf. Alex grew up loving the game of golf because of his parents, Clair Sr. and Elsie. They were avid golfers who were part of a group that founded and built the Conestoga Country Club.
Alex was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. He was an active member for over 60 years with his wife Doris. Both Alex and Doris enjoyed church camping and beach retreats together. He always felt that he had an extended family with the church members. Another favorite was traveling to visit out-of-state family.
He is survived by his son, Mark and his wife Debra, Hilliard, OH; his daughters, Connie Chamberlain and Pamela Darrah, both of Lancaster; three granddaughters, Whitney Alexander, Hilliard, OH, Dana Russell wife of Zach, Galloway, OH, and Clarese Urban wife of Evan, Elizabethtown, PA.
