Clemons L. (Joe) Canterbury was born June 24, 1917 in Walton, WV. He died September 20, 2013 in the Glen at Willow Valley, Lancaster, PA.
He is survived by his daughters, Patricia Vazzana and her husband Michael and Cora Dentry and her husband Thomas. He is survived also by a step-daughter Catherine Fronheiser and her husband Larry and a step-son Thomas Stewart and his wife Wendy. He has 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife Lue Ferrell Canterbury and his second wife Rosine Stewart Canterbury. He was also predeceased by his brothers Clarence and Dewain Canterbury.
Joe grew up in Walton, WV where he was a teacher educated at Glenville State Teachers College and Morris Harvey College. He moved to Baltimore to work at Bethlehem Steel during World War II and retired after 33 years as a Manager for State Farm Insurance. He and Rosine moved to North Port, FL and spent the summers in Canaan Valley, WV. They moved to Willow Valley in 1998. He was known to many as the “Archbishop” or just Joe. His hobby was traveling, and he had wall maps showing that he had visited all 50 states and many countries. He was a Master Mason, a Shriner, and a member of First United Methodist Church in Lancaster.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Memorial Service from the Johnson Auditorium of Willow Valley Manor North, 600 Willow Valley Square, Lancaster, PA on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. The family will receive friends in the Activity Room of Willow Valley Manor North from 10:30 A.M. until the time of service.
Interment will be in Dulaney Valley Memorial Garden, 200 E. Padonia Road, Timonium, MD. on Tuesday at 2:45 P.M.
