Cletus K. Sweigart, 96, a resident of Brethren Village , died Saturday, October 27, 2012 at the home.
He was the husband of the late Jean Witmer Sweigart who died in 1988. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Isaac K. and F. Maude Reese Sweigart.
Cletus retired from Millersville University in 1981, where he was the Business Manager of Student Service, Inc. He graduated from the Strasburg High School in 1933. He had attended Lancaster Business College and received his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Kentucky.
He was a member of Chiques United Methodist Church in Mount Joy where he was Secretary of the Board of Trustees for many years.
Mr. Sweigart served in the U.S. Army in the European Theatre in World War II and was discharged with the rank of Battalion Sergeant Major. He was a charter member and past commander of the V.F.W. Post #8710 in Strasburg, a life member of the American Legion Post #185 in Mt. Joy, the Marine Corp League, the Travelers Protective Association Post “D” of Lancaster, and a life member of the Strasburg Sportsman’s Assocaition.
His masonic memberships included the Charles M. Howell Lodge #496 in Millersville, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Lancaster Forest #27, Lancaster Lodge of Perfection, Harrisburg Consistory, Zembo Temple, Lancaster County Shrine Club, and the James Buchanan High Twelve #687.
Surviving is a brother C. Glenn Sweigart of Brethren Village; a sister-in-law, Connie Witmer of Florida; nephews, Eugene Mitchell husband of Karen, Barry Mitchell, Marlin Mitchell, Brian Sweigart husband of Cosette, and Glenn Sweigart, Jr.; and by nieces, Darlene Heym wife of Ernie, Judy Samuels Boldaz wife of Bob, Sandy Witmer and Sharon Kurtz. He was preceded in death by brothers Malcolm and Marlin Sweigart, by a sister Eunice Mitchell, and by a nephew Ronald Mitchell.
The family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to the staff of Clover Ridge North at Brethren Village and the staff of Hospice and Community Care for the care they provided to Cletus during the last days of his life.
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, November 1, 2012 at 2:30 P.M.at the Chapel At Brethren Village, 3001 Lititz Pike, Lancaster, PA with the Rev. Mark Tedford officiating. Friends may call at Brethren Village on Thursday from 1:30 P.M. until the time of the service. Interment in the Willow Street Mennonite Cemetery.
