Conrad B. Bare, 94, of Willow Valley Manor died August 1, 2016 peacefully in his sleep. He was married to Carolyn H. (Hall) Bare, the love of his life, for 66 years. She predeceased him on his 90
th
birthday, January 15, in 2012.
Born in Marysville, PA, Conrad was the son of Earle H. and Hazel H. (Hain) Bare. He grew up in Norwood, PA, attending the local schools. Conrad graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering in 1943. He served with honor in the US Navy during World War II as communication officer aboard LST 477 in the Pacific theater.
Conrad was involved in research and development throughout his entire career, most of which was spent with the Bethlehem Steel Corporation. He was awarded seven patents dedicated to the extraction and separation of metals from ores.
A long-time member of the Presbyterian Church USA, Conrad served as an ordained elder, deacon and trustee. Most recently, he was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Lancaster.
Surviving Conrad are his daughters, Susan Bartlett of Bear, DE, Marilyn Sheehan of Burke, VA and son, David Bare of Charlotte, NC, as well as four grandchildren, Daniel and Jennifer Bartlett, Brian and Stephanie Sheehan and five great-grandchildren. Conrad was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by his family.
