Corinne H. Nissley, 92, died at the Brethren Village on June 6, 2016. Born in East Petersburg to Elam and Esther Martin Hollinger, she was married to Walter Scott Nissley, Jr. for 68 years.
A 1942 graduate of East Hempfield High School, Corinne first became a busy farmer’s wife, housewife and mother. Later she entered retailing as a sales clerk and worked her way up into managerial positions at Gimbels and Watt and Shand. She found time to be president of the local and state Farm Women, hosted several exchange students from Germany, Laos, and Finland, was soloist, organist, and choir director in the Church of the Brethren. In retirement she enjoyed golf, Red Hat Society, and volunteering at the Brethren Village even though for over 8 years she was sole caretaker for her beloved husband who was wheelchair-bound late in life.
Surviving are 2 daughters, Connie, wife of Rick Seeley of Florida and Nancy, wife of Richard Marsden of New York; 3 sons, W. Scott III, husband of Vickie Kensinger Nissley of Maryland, Eric Nissley, husband of Henry Gibson of Massachusetts, and David, husband of Gail Haeffner Nissley of Connecticut; 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Also surviving are 2 sisters, Matora Hostetter and Jean Zurin, both of Brethren Village.
Corinne had musical talents which were held in high esteem by many. She was a vibrant and inspiring woman with many qualities that made the world a better place. She will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held at the Hempfield Church of the Brethren, 1186 Stevens St., Manheim on
June 18 at 2 PM
. The family will visit friends following the service with private internment held afterwards. A second memorial service will be held at the Brethren Village Chapel on
June 18 at 7 PM
