David “Dick” Richard Davis Ii, M.D.

David “Dick” Richard Davis II, M.D., 75, of Lancaster, PA died unexpectedly on December 6, 2010, surrounded by his family. Born in Emporia, KS, he was the son of the late David Richard, M.D. and Dorothy Jennings Davis. He proudly served in the US Navy as an anesthesiologist from 1957 to 1985, retiring as Captain. Following his distinguished military career, he became Professor and Chair of the Department of Anesthesia at LSUMC, Shreveport, LA. In 2006, he and his wife, Judith, moved to Lancaster, PA to be near their children and grandchildren.

Dick lived a life of public service and following retirement, he spent his time volunteering for Habitat for Humanity in both Shreveport, LA and Lancaster, PA, helping to construct over 46 homes. People who knew him well described him as a brilliant, caring teacher who would do anything to help others. Dr. Davis is survived by his soul mate, Judith; his siblings, Louise Lawrence of Lancaster, PA (formerly of Tucson, AZ), Hugh J. Davis of Pelham, AL and John A. Davis of Emporia, KS. Dick and Judy have five married children (Elizabeth Scott; David Davis III, PhD; Katherine Davis, PhD; Linda Popielarski; and Steven Durning, M.D.), 12 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent in Dick’s memory to Habitat for Humanity, 443 Fairview Ave., Lancaster, PA 17603; (717) 392-8836. The family is grateful for the outstanding care provided to Dr. Davis by Dr. Monacci and Dr. Wu and RNs Lindsey, Lee, Tina and Amanda in the LGH Trauma Neuro Unit.
