David Flores, 68, passed away on February 20, 2025, after a brief illness in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Born on September 12, 1956, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, David lived in Caracas Venezuela before his family eventually moved to Pennsylvania David led a life marked by intelligence, a sharp wit, and unwavering kindness towards others.
David earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from Dartmouth College. He played Forward on the Dartmouth Basketball team and was a member of the AXA fraternity where he established lifelong friendships. After college David obtained a Juris Doctor from Georgetown Law School and also played Pro Basketball in Venezuela during the summers. David served as a Clerk for the Court of International Trade. His sharp analytical mind served him well throughout his career as a corporate litigator in both New York City and Lancaster, PA. David not only achieved success in the courtroom but also secured numerous victories in appellate courts during his legal career. David served the community in many forms including as a member of the Manheim Township School Board.
David met his wife Kathy, the love of his life, on an airplane. After that chance encounter the deal was sealed. Throughout their 33 years of marriage, they hiked all of the US National Parks, explored European destinations, pursued outdoor adventures, and opened their home to a myriad of dogs that needed care while parents were on vacation. David and Kathy had a wonderful life together filled with love.
David's passion for history and current events remained a lifelong pursuit—he was a voracious reader (2-3 books a week). David welcomed lively and challenging debates with others on these subjects -no one could stump him on facts. David was known for his honesty and inherent kindness. He was never one to embellish or seek approval; instead, he carried himself (at 6’ 8”) with quiet confidence and authenticity.
David is survived by his wife, Kathy Meier Flores; his brother, James Flores (Sara); as well as 10 nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Dr. Alberto Flores (Judith) and Joan Shand (James).
Many thanks are extended to the entire staff at Lancaster General Hospital for the excellent care provided during David’s short illness.
