Donald C. Barto, 91, of Lancaster, PA passed into eternal rest on Saturday, September 22, 2012 at Brethren Village.
Born in Lancaster on August 19, 1921, he was a son of the late Harvey G., Sr. and Sara Remick Barto. He and his wife M. Virginia Deen Barto lived on Rachael Drive, in Lancaster for 40 years prior to moving to Brethren Village in 2009.
Don and Virginia were both 1939 graduates of J. P. McCaskey High School. Don enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War II, spending several years in Greenland. After the war he returned to work at Berks Optical Co., where he became a dispensing optician. On June 18, 1966 he and Virginia were married. Together they traveled all over the United States and Canada, and after retiring they drove to Alaska 5 times. His hobby was taking videos and slides.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Lancaster where he attended regularly and served as an usher until Parkinson’s took over.
In addition to his wife, Don is survived by daughter, Diane S, wife of Henry H. Deemer of Leola; two grandchildren, Kristina M., wife of Steven L. MacFeat, Jr. and their children Tana A. and Kitiara D.of Lancaster; and Scott T. husband of Lauren M. Deemer of Annville, and a nephew, Luke, husband of Nancy Senior of Lock Haven, PA. He was predeceased by a brother, Harvey G. Barto, Jr., and a sister, Dorothy Barto Senior.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a funeral service from First United Methodist Church, corner of Duke and Walnut Streets., Lancaster, PA on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Friends may visit at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
