Donald E. Coble
Donald E. Coble, 84, of Lancaster, entered into rest on Thursday, February 11, 2016 at Hospice & Community Care.
He was the loving husband to the late Jean Marie Coble to whom he was married to for 25 years. Born in Lancaster, PA., he was the son of the late Harry E. and Helen (Shearer) Coble.
He graduated from J.P. McCaskey High School in 1949. He then enlisted in the Army and spent his time as a radio technician in Eritrea, Africa. After he was discharged from the Army he began working at Armstrong Research Lab where he developed an interest in sales. After graduating with an Associate’s Degree from Franklin & Marshall College, he began his career as a salesman at Slaymaker Lock Company and was was named president of the sales club in 1971. In his later career he started his own business called Forseasons Sales.
Don was a member of the Lancaster Road Runner Club for over 35 years. He was known for his “gourmet” fun runs and ran many races including the Marine Corp Marathon.
In his spare time, he enjoyed dancing as a member of the Cotillion Club. Don was also active with fundraising for cancer research; he had a team called “Donnie’s Angels” who participated in the Relay for Life.
He is survived by two daughters; Tamara Coble Garrett wife of Ernie Garrett of Willow Street, and Cynthia Ann Albright partner
of Chuck Yeager of Lakeland, FL; a son J. Todd husband of Kerry Pease Coble of Lancaster; 2 grandchildren, Kiah A. Coble and Jasper E. Coble; a step daughter, Rebecca Stamm Williams; three step-sons, Michael husband of Nancy Schaum Ault, Stephen husband of Donna Smallwood Ault and Paul husband of Vicky Harrison Stamm all of Lancaster. Also surviving are six step-grandchildren, seven step-great grandchildren; and a sister, Nelda Kauffman. In addition to his wife he was predeceased by a sister, Jean Wilhelm, and a brother Richard.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Memorial Service at Woodcrest Villa, Eagle Commons, 2001 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster, PA on Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at 11:00 AM with Chaplain Mim Cruz officiating. Friends may greet the family Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at DeBord Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 141 E. Orange St., Lancaster, PA 17602 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM as well as on Wednesday at Woodcrest Villa from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Interment will be in Riverview Burial Park following the luncheon at Woodcrest Villa.
