Donald K. Alexander

Donald K. Alexander, 83, of New Providence, PA passed away at Conestoga View on April 4, 2013 from complications of Parkinson Disease.   Born in Delaware, OH he was the son of the late Donald M. and Alice E. Livie Alexander.  He was the beloved husband of Margaret A. Rice Alexander to whom he was married  58 years on May 15, 2012.

Don received his B.A. degree from Albion College, Albion, MI in 1950; his M.A. degree from Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, MI in 1959; and his Ph.D degree from Indiana State University, Terre Haute, IN in 1967.

He began his career as an elementary teacher and principal in Plymouth, MI, and then was an Associate Professor at Penn State University, Harrisburg for 22 years, retiring in 1989.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Lancaster, PA where he sang in the Chancel Choir for many years, and more recently in the Wesley Singers.

Donald enjoyed his children and grandchildren.  He was well known for his insightful and heartfelt poems. He had written a collection of hundreds, many written as a personal tribute to family, friends and acquaintances.

In addition to his wife, Margaret, Don is survived by a son, Michael Alexander (Laura), and four daughters, Anne Demetree Peknik (Donald), Beth Wilson( Rusty), Joan Moscatelli Shoemaker (Ron), and Jill Longenecker(Alan);and 7 grandchildren, Claire Walters (Chase), Toni Mann (Matthew), Jackie Moscatelli, Aaron and Kelsey Bowersox, Alexander and Jacob Demetree),  and a sister, Barbara Chapelle.  He was predeceased by his brother, Robin Alexander.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a memorial service at First United Methodist Church, corner of Duke and Walnut Sts., Lancaster, PA on Saturday, April 20, 2013, at 1:00 P.M.  The family will visit with friends immediately following the memorial service.
