Donald Whitehead

Donald Whitehead, 92, died on Dec. 23rd at the Glen at Willow Valley. Born in Newark, NJ, he was the son of the late Silas and Della (Jacobus) Whitehead. He was the husband of Charlotte (Hontz) Whitehead with whom he celebrated 51 years of marriage.

A veteran of WWII, Don proudly served with the U.S. Army in the Pacific. He was a graduate of East Orange High School and attended Newark College of Engineering. He worked at Bendix Corp., Teterboro, NJ and Breeze Corp., Union, NJ, retiring at age 70.

Don was an active member of First Baptist Church, Rahway, NJ for 40 years.

In addition to his wife, Charlotte, he is survived by his children, Donald J. (Donna) Whitehead of Cross, SC; Jeffrey (Linda) Whitehead of Red Oak, TX; Glenn (Denise) Whitehead of Ridgeville, SC; John (Susan) Swanson of Lancaster, PA; David (Robbi) Swanson of Walnutport, PA; and Rev. William (Betsy) Whitehead of Rahway, NJ; 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held in the Johnson Auditorium of Willow Valley Manor North, 600 Willow Valley Square, Lancaster, PA on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. The family will greet friends immediately following the memorial service. Private interment in Hazelwood Cemetery, Rahway, NJ will take place at the convenience of the family.
