Donna Larson Brown

Donna Mae Larson Brown, 78, of Lancaster, PA, died February 6, 2013 surrounded by her loving family.  She was preceded in death by her two husbands, William C. Larson, 1995, and Edward Brown, 2012; and her parents Mae (Mary) and Donald Brooks of Oak Park, IL.  She is survived by her children Laura Lynn (Jeffery) Brubaker of Lancaster, William Scott Larson of Mt. Joy, John Brooks Larson of Lancaster, and Donald (Terri) Arthur Larson of Mozambique in Southeastern African, by her brother Roger Brooks of Oak Park, IL, by her step-sons Paul (Kathryn) Brown of Silver Spring, MD and Bruce (Carol) of Boca Raton, FL, and by her 7 wonderful grandchildren.

Donna was born in Chicago in 1934 where she was raised and then later in Oak Park, IL.

She became a Registered Nurse at West Suburban Hospital in Oak Park.  Shortly thereafter she met and married her first husband Bill who was an executive with R.R. Donnelly & Company, and they lived in Oak Park for a short period until Bill was transferred to Old Saybrook, CT where he was promoted to Division Director in charge of Donnelly’s large printing facility.

Living in Old Saybrook was a joyous and wonderful period for Donna while her children grew and enjoyed the many amenities available to her and the family living in the small picturesque coastal city.

Donna was the most loving and caring wife, mother, sister, and friend.  She was an extremely talented self-taught painter and attracted a large circle of close friends, and was active in numerous social groups in Old Saybrook.

Donna and Bill were transferred to Lancaster where they purchased a large 3 story home and shortly thereafter built a beautiful in-ground swimming pool.  In later years Donna’s father lived with them until his passing in 1986.

Donna met her second husband Ed in a grief counseling group they attended when each of them had lost their spouses.  Ed noticed Donna during these sessions and eventually built up enough courage to ask her to coffee and after a year or so they became husband and wife.

They purchased a beautiful townhouse in the Lancaster area but it became their summer home as a result of Ed’s love for boating which soon became Donna’s passion as well; first on his sailboat and then on their cabin cruiser.  Each winter they would sail or cruise down the Intracoastal Waterway to the Florida Keys where they anchored each winter while living on the boat.  Once again they attracted a large circle of friends who were also boating enthusiasts.

Donna and Ed enjoyed this wonderful lifestyle until their later years when they moved to the Willow Valley retirement community to finish living their lives.

At Donna’s request, in lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be sent to Hospice & Community Care, P.O.
