Doris J. Beitzel

Doris Jane Beitzel, 84, of Lancaster, passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at the Mennonite Home.

Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Charles F. and Verna (Herr) McKelly. Her husband, the late Samuel E. Beitzel, Sr., passed away in 1972.

Doris was a lifelong resident of Lancaster and a 1951 graduate of J.P. McCaskey High School. After raising her boys, she worked at Weinstein Supply, where she retired in 1997. Most of Doris’ life was dedicated to pouring her whole heart into being a mom, a homemaker, and a loving grandmother. For her, there was nothing as important as family and bringing people together. Doris was quiet and humble, yet strong-willed and fiercely independent. Always encouraging in a kind and gentle way, Doris was a good friend to those who knew her.

She is survived by her two sons; Sam Beitzel, Jr., husband of Kelly of Lancaster, and Gordon Beitzel, husband of Sherrie of Lancaster; her grandchildren, Daniel, Mary, and Trina Beitzel, and her brother; Charles F. McKelly, Jr. of Hummelstown.

The family would like to say thank you to all the caring staff of the Mennonite Home. These compassionate souls that Mom referred to as her “angels” were a big part of her life for the past year. “Thank you” seems inadequate to express our gratitude for the fine care and attention Mom received.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Memorial Service for Doris on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Mennonite Home chapel, 1520 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster, PA 17601. Friends may greet the family from 10:30 AM until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank by visiting www.centralpafoodbank.org.

At the family’s request, due to very limited parking at the Mennonite Home, please consider carpooling with friends and family.
