Doris L. Alexander, 84, of Lancaster, PA; wife, mother, and now with God passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at home under the loving care of family, friends, and Hospice.
Born October 6, 1929 in Lancaster, PA. Daughter of Allen and Kathryn Sweigart. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Clair H. Alexander. Also, survived by her sister, Gladys Childs of Denver, CO. and sister, Ruth Johnson of Strasburg, PA. She is preceded in death by her brother, Allen Sweigart Jr, and sister, Shirley Rineer.
She will be lovingly missed by her children, Connie Chamberlain of Lancaster, PA, Mark Alexander and wife , Debra Jones-Alexander of Hilliard, OH, and Pam Darrah of Lancaster, PA.
Doris was blessed with three grandchildren, Whitney and Dana (children of Mark and Debra) and Clarese (child of Pam). Further blessed with two great-grandchildren, Ryleigh and Dylan.
She lived a very full and rewarding life…her years of faithfully serving at Redeemer Lutheran Church as Council Member, Youth Leader, Alter Guild, Sunday School Teacher along with many other activities. She was also an animal lover and a pioneer at the beginning development of Hospice of Lancaster in 1980. Some of things she enjoyed were the beach, music, dancing, playing games, church camp and always helping others.
Viewing will be held, Monday October 21, 2013 from 6 to 8pm at Kearney A. Snyder Funeral Home, 141 E. Orange St., Lancaster, PA. We will celebrate Doris’ life with a memorial service at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 500 Pearl St., Lancaster, PA on Tuesday, October 22, 2013 from 7 to 8pm following a viewing from 6 to 7pm. In lieu of flowers, Doris requested that memorial contributions be made to Hospice & Community Care, P.O. Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125 or Redeemer Lutheran Church.
