Dorothy K. Hess, 85, of Willow Street, died Friday, June 11, 2010 at Hospice of Lancaster County in Mount Joy.
Mrs. Hess was married 63 years to Walter E. Hess. Born January 25, 1925 in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Ada Kreider Gochnauer.
Dorothy was a homemaker who earlier in life had worked at Central Market and at Cherry Hill Orchards. She was a 63 year member of the Byerland Mennonite Church and had been active in the sewing circle. Dorothy enjoyed quilting and her children and grandchildren cherish the quilts that she made for each one of them. She also enjoyed embroidering, flower gardening and attending auctions.
Surviving besides her husband are two sons, David E. husband of Joyce Lentz Hess of Decatur, GA, and Donald W. husband of Diane Miller Hess of Willow Street; four daughters, Gloria J. wife of Clifford Bender of Lancaster, Karen J. wife of Dale Glass-Hess of Atlanta, GA, Susan K. Rittenhouse of Ewing, NJ, and Kathy M. wife of Dennis Dagen of Pequea; 14 grandchildren, five great grandchildren; one sister, Beulah K. wife of Robert Slaymaker of Orlando, FL; and two brothers, Kenneth K. husband of Wanda Gochnauer and Elvin K. husband of Ethel Gochnauer both of Lancaster.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. at the Byerland Mennonite Church, 931 Byerland Church Road, Willow Street, PA with the Rev. Joe C. Garber officiating. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 1:00 P.M. until the time of the service. Interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family in the Byerland Mennonite Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mrs. Hess’ memory may be made to Hospice of Lancaster County, 685 Good Drive, P.O.
