Dorothy Jean Patterson, 80, of Lancaster, PA died peacefully at home surrounded by family on Monday November 26, 2012 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Born in Lancaster, PA she was the daughter of the late Walter L. and Miriam I. Shenk.

She is survived by her husband Robert with whom she celebrated 61 years of marriage in May; two children, Craig R., husband of Cindy Schnee Patterson of Ellicott City, MD., and Tracy A., wife of Kerry Cunningham of Mechanicsburg, PA; and a grandson Brian R. Cunningham of Mechanicsburg, PA. She graduated from McCaskey High School in 1950. She was employed as a legal Secretary at Armstrong World Industries until 1959 when she left to become a devoted mother. She was a meticulous homemaker who excelled in tastefully decorating the family homes, working in the yards and gardens, and sharing her laughter and love for animals and life. Her hobbies included intricate needlework, collecting bird cages, bridge, and duck pin bowling at the Hamilton Club with her friends. She was an accomplished pianist. Her infectious laughter and quick wit will be missed by her many friends. A former active member of Otterbein United Methodist Church, Lancaster, currently she is a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Lancaster. Memorial contributions in Dottie’s memory may be made to Lancaster General Health Foundation, Cancer Center Campaign, 609 N. Cherry St. P.O. Box 3555, Lancaster, PA 17604-3555 or Hospice & Community Care, P.O. Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.
