Dorothy H. Ritter, 87, of Lancaster, PA, passed away on Friday, October 13, 2023, at Mennonite Homes after a brief illness. She was the loving wife of Robert H. Ritter.
She was born in Lancaster, PA, to Claude and Dorothy Herr.
She graduated from McCaskey High School, where she was a majorette. She spent many happy hours there and over the decades with her best friends, the Snyder sisters, Paula, Zoe, and Joann. Her future husband, Bob, also caught her eye there, and they were married in 1955.
She was a long-time member of Otterbein United Methodist Church, where she volunteered at the Clothing Bank for many years. She faithfully took her children to Sunday School.
She and her friends were instrumental in raising funds to save the structures of the Fulton Opera House and the Hans Herr House.
Early on, she worked at WGAL TV and later in property management. However, she found her true calling as an antiques dealer, specializing in quilts and Stangl dinnerware. She adored her little booth at the Black Angus Antiques Mall, and loved socializing there with fellow dealer, Paralee. .
She spent many happy summer days at Ocean City, NJ, and the Manor House Swimming Pool. She traveled to England and to Montreal. She always had cats, inside and outside. Throughout her life, she enjoyed reading, watching old movies, drinking tea, and knitting. More recently, she liked to write letters and make bookmarks and envelopes from wallpaper.
She is survived by her husband; children Matthew Ritter and Claudia Ritter (companion, Karen Kline); her sister, Charlotte Drennen (husband, Richard Jr.); niece Jessica Jackson; nephew Richard Drennen (III); and cousins Lynn Arnold, Glenn Walz, and Marion Eckman.
