Douglas Dean Davis

Douglas Dean Davis, 63, of Dillsburg died Monday, January 5 2015 after a brief illness.  He was preceded in death by his life partner of Cynthia Gulage Dagen.

Born in Lewistown, PA, on April 25, 1951, he was the son of Joyce Metzger Davis and the late Dean Doyle Davis.   In addition to his mother, Douglas is survived by two sisters Beverly Davis Parmer (Dale K. Parmer) of Millersville, and Diane Joyce Davis (Debra J. Kilpatrick) of Essex Jct., VT; and two nieces Devica and Deanna of Essex Jct., VT.  In addition to his father he was preceded in death by a brother Thomas Doyle Davis.

He was a graduate of Manheim Township High School and obtained a B.S. in English and Communications from Millersville University.  Douglas served as an English teacher for 27 years as a teacher for York Suburban High School.

An accomplished guitarist and banjo picker, Doug played with local area bands in the Susquehanna Valley among them were Gypsy Blue, Solid Gold, and the Red Vino and the Winers.

In his spare time he enjoyed swimming and fishing at Assateague Island and Buck Lake Ontario and in his younger years was an Eagle Scout and a camp counselor and aquatic instructor at Camp Chiquatan and Camp Mack.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, January 9, 2015 at 12:00 PM at the Kearney A. Snyder Funeral Home, 141 E. Orange St., Lancaster, PA 17602.  Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.  Interment in Greenwood Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers contributions in his memory may be made to Vickie’s Angel Foundation, 511Bridge St., P.O. Box 174, New Cumberland, PA 17070.
